Woo hoo! Friday is here! One of the nice parts about my job is that if I have to work on Saturday, I'm usually off on Fridays. My "not-work" mental to-do list kicks in usually. A lot of times (when I'm not sleeping in, which is a lot on my days off LOL!), I'm running my errands.
I'm very close to my mom, and we often love going shopping together. This morning, we were checking out of Target, and while I was eyeing the popcorn and ICEEs by the front of the store, a tornado siren goes off (cue dramatic music and screams here). 86'ing the snacks, we run to my car, which was not too far away (thank goodness!), load the car as fast as possible, and jump inside. My mom said that a tornado warning was going off, as well as a severe weather threat, and she said we would not make it home in time. Instead, we started the drive to my grandfather's house, located not far away. The plan was to hang out there until the bad weather was lifted.
All I could think about was the possible tornado out there. Normally, bad weather doesn't bother me UNLESS I'm actually out in it and having to drive. All I could think about was, "get me to Grandaddy's, and don't let me die." It also didn't help that my phone was blowing up while trying to drive, and the sirens in the background kept echoing (especially since I'm hypersensitive to loud sounds). Finally, as I'm turning into my grandfather's neighborhood, I ask my mom how in the world she was so calm while we were in the middle of "out-racing" (is that even a word?) storm? She simply replied, "God's got us."
You know those moments where someone says something, and it's not really out of context or dramatic or anything, but that really hit me. It dawned on me that, yes, God does have us, not just in scary times, but the chill moments, too, in good and bad. He has it all together, and we have absolutely nothing to worry about. It's easier said than done, but it's not impossible just to say, "Jesus, I love you, and I give you my life and everything that's hanging over me. I lay it at your feet, at the foot of the cross." No matter what storm you're experiencing (literal or figurative), He's "got you"- now and always- AMEN!
Peace and Joy,
Amy (Ephesians 3:20)
