Enjoy the Journey

Hey, y’all!

I know it’s been a minute since my last post, but I’ve been on a much-needed vacay.

Specifically, I took a trip to the mountains in Tennessee, one of my top “happy places.” The weather was sunny, with a pleasant, cool, springlike breeze. I also discovered a new hidden gem in the park that I’ve never seen before. Specifically, God surprised me with not only a new piece of His greatest artwork, but with a valuable and profound life lesson we can all carry with us.

While I enjoy seeing all of nature in this beautiful place, I couldn’t help but feel a bit antsy a few minutes into the flat nature walk. I am not a patient person by nature, and I tend to struggle with a “I want it now!” attitude (I’m working on that). We were looking for a waterfall, and all I could think was “are we ever going to get there?”

Suddenly (not to sound dramatic), I could hear God’s gentle whisper telling me, “Amy, relax and enjoy the journey. I’ve got you.”

That‘s when it hit me: Life is not about reaching the destination, but enjoying the journey along the way (not

my words, but whoever originally said this hit the nail on the head).

My job was to relax and enjoy the beautiful trees, wildflowers, and whispering streams of water along the way. Finally, when we reached the waterfall and I took in its natural beauty, I realized that the journey was worth it. I also realized that when God tells us to wait, He not only promises to show us something more beautiful than we could even begin to comprehend, but he will show is something just as beautiful along the journey. All we have to do is enjoy the ride!
