Angels

My nana loved angels. She always told

me stories about them, sang songs about them, and collected angel ornaments and figurines, many of which I treasure to this day. One thing she always said to me is that although many angels are with Jesus in heaven, you don’t always have to look up to find them on earth.

Today is a bittersweet and sad day for me. I had the pleasure of knowing a true angel on earth. Today is the anniversary of her death- seventeen years ago to be exact. I still can’t comprehend this fact, as it seems like yesterday. When we were sophomores in high school, she was tragically killed in a car accident. When my mom told me the awful news the next day, I couldn’t believe it. I mean, I had just seen and spoken to her at school a few days ago!

This friend was an angel on earth because she truly walked the walk. She loved the Lord and was always thrilled to tell others about Jesus. She was always kind to everyone. Oh, and did she have that gorgeous smile that lit up the world! Once, it was “bring a friend to church day,” and she invited me- what fun! I have so many wonderful memories of her, and I think it’s important to treasure and hold onto these special memories, especially when your heart stings for those that are no longer with us.

Another thing that my nana always told me is to ”never mess with God’s will,” even if it is hard to understand. As hard as it is to understand why my sweet angel of a friend was called home so early, I know that the Lord will always make something beautiful out of dark times like these. For one thing, her passing led many others, including myself, to know Christ.

Friends, I challenge you today by carrying on my special friend’s legacy. Give someone a hug. Smile at a stranger. Offer a random act of kindness. Tell that person how much they mean to you, no matter how real or awkward it is. We are not promised tomorrow, but we are promised a loving God who never changes. Because of this, I know where my friend is, exactly where my precious nana is- with Jesus. Until later, my sweet friend. Keep watching over us. ❤️
