Today, I'm feeling sentimental. My Pops (my paternal grandfather)'s birthday is today. Gosh, I know he is having the best time in heaven, and I can only imagine the celebration being thrown for him in heaven today. While I only knew him for a short time on this earth (he passed away from cancer when I was just 3), I still have many wonderful memories of him. I remember how he always called me "Amy Ree," the sweet, woodsy smell of his cologne he always wore, the cookouts he always had at his house, his horse named Lightning, and his beautiful, thick silvery hair (my daddy has beautiful, thick hair like he did).
Something else that stands out to me is that Pops's favorite song was "His Eye is on the Sparrow." It truly is such a beautiful song. Feeling sentimental, I paused for a minute to listen to it. (One of my dear friends sings it so beautifully! Take a listen here- https://youtu.be/Pp2y9phXXmU). My favorite part is how the song lovingly mentions "And I know He watches me." What a beautiful reminder that God, our loving Father, always watches over us, and Praise God that he never leaves us! Another part of the song that I love is the very beginning, where this question is asked, "Why should I feel discouraged?". I started thinking after a busy week, "Yeah! Why should I feel discouraged? God is in control, and He's got everything all worked out." Sometimes, we need beautiful reminders and huge "God winks," helping us to hold on to God's truth that He's got us and knows what's best for us. He always has and He always will.
Until then, Pops, I will do my best to work hard every day like you did, as well as show kindness to everyone like you always did. Your legacy continues on, and you would love your other grandchildren, my cousins. They are amazing people, and I hope we make you and Grandmama proud. Until later, I miss you and love you! Happy heavenly birthday! Love always, your "Amy Ree"
Love to you too, dear reader! Be blessed today and remember to show kindness!

Amy, I am loving your posts about being a “ loud librarian!” Your journalism skills are outstanding, and I think you should write a book about you and your family living in our small town, Brandon. I would be your first person to attend your book signing!!
